A sustainable and green village where people take care of each other. Where everyone feels welcome, where all can be themselves and can work and grow. Where everyone has good and affordable housing. For us, this is not a fairy tale but a realistic ideal. In Waalre we are going to tackle climate change and we do not tolerate racism and discrimination. Together we will change Waalre.
Accessible care for everyone
We aim for accessible care for all our inhabitants and in all parts of Waalre. Health and prevention are important topics for us, and we strive for customized, unbureaucratic solutions where needed. Waalre as a village needs to cooperate with our neighbors in the Brainport region to ensure accessible and approachable care for everyone who needs support.
Affordable housing for everyone
For starters, families and the elderly it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a home in our village. The housing prices and rents keep on going up. Landlords and speculators have become richer at the expense of society at large. GroenLinks stands for a fair approach to the housing crisis. Villas and luxury apartments do not solve this crisis, affordable homes do.
Green and sustainable housing
GroenLinks aims for more green in all neighborhoods and more sustainable housing. Together with our inhabitants and housing corporations we will isolate all houses and apartments. Besides making homes more comfortable and sustainable this approach will reduce the rising costs for energy. For those with a low income, we want to provide financial and practical support for isolation. To turn our neighborhoods into pleasant and green areas we cover unused spots with insect-friendly planting and stimulate our residents to greenify their gardens.
Green and healthy environment
Waalre is a green village surrounded by beautiful nature. But our local green areas are threatened by petrification and desiccation due to climate change. We prioritize biodiversity, a green environment and quality of life. All planting in public areas must be insect-friendly and stimulate biodiversity. GroenLinks aims at reducing car traffic in nature areas and fights plans for a new road or parking spaces in the forest. We stimulate sustainable recreation.
Climate and sustainability
The climate crisis is undoubtedly the largest challenge of our time. To stop global warming we need all our decisiveness, creativity and will for cooperation. GroenLinks places climate and sustainability on the top of Waalre’s political agenda. While major polluters must cut down their emissions, we will support low-income residents in the sustainable energy transition.
Fighting inequality
GroenLinks stands for a village where everyone can participate and contribute to society. Where it does not matter which neighborhood you come from, which gender identity of cultural background you have. We stand for fairness. Not everyone out for themselves, but stronger together. Fighting inequality and poverty is therefore our priority. We do not tolerate racism or discrimination.
Transformation to a circular society
Municipalities have a crucial role to improve waste segregation and recycling. We aim to reduce our residual waste to less than 30 kg per resident before 2025. To reach this goal we stimulate our residents to separate waste by lowering charges for those with a low amount of residual waste. At the same time we increase the frequency and service level for collection of organic waste and other recyclables. Together with the residents of apartment buildings we will start a pilot project to improve waste segregation and recycling for this type of buildings.
Safe and sustainable mobility
GroenLinks stands for sustainable means of mobility, such as walking, cycling, public transport or (electric) car sharing. We provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists, and improve the safety of roads and bike paths. To improve the frequency of public transport we propose using electric shuttles to provide connections to the main bus routes as well as the MMC/ASML.
Together we make Waalre ours
Together we can create a village with culture, a variety of sports and plenty of room for ideas and local initiatives. Arts and culture have an important role for mental wellbeing and self-development. Sports stimulates regular physical exercise and is therefore important for physical and mental wellbeing. Waalre has a wide variety of clubs and initiatives devoted to sports and cultural activities which at the same time form an important anchor of the social life of our residents. We want to free up budget to stimulate and facilitate these local initiatives and ensure that cultural activities and sports are accessible for all our residents. All children from low income families must have the chance to follow sports and music lessons and to participate in other cultural activities.
Newcomers
No matter if you are an expat, refugee or working as knowledge worker in the Brainport region: Everybody is welcome in Waalre. To help newcomers feel at home in our communities, contact with local residents should be stimulated by the municipality and local initiatives. For the partners of knowledge workers it is important to enable them to establish social contacts, follow Dutch lessons and can contribute by (volunteer)work. In cooperation with our region, we ensure that children are able to learn the Dutch language and enter a regular school in their neighborhood.
